Redesigning the Vinted App
Vinted is an app to buy and sell clothes from and to regular individuals. For me, as for a lot of other people, it’s the perfect place to find bargains, or to make a little money on the side.
I’ve been using this app for years, and I wanted to redesign it to give it a new identity, all the while keeping the essence of Vinted, which I love.
Objectives
- Faithful
My goal was to make a visually appealing app that would still feel like Vinted — I didn’t want to lose the brand identity.
2. Enjoyable
I also wanted to make the user experience more straightforward and easier, by adding a couple of gamification elements, for instance.
3. Simple
One of the biggest asset of Vinted is the huge content available, that gets bigger every time an item is put on sale. But at the same time, because of the structure of the app, the user journey is not straightforward enough, in my opinion.
Helping users find items that fit their tastes et and needs easily should be a priority. However, I personally often find myself overwhelmed by the amount of possibilities and products on the platform.
Process
I. Research and analysis
I first analyzed the structure of the app to determine the information architecture. I tried to figure out what were Vinted’s weaknesses — like the overwhelming content, for instance.
I then researched the competitors, such as Vestiaire Collective, to see how they were organized and wether or not they had the same issues Vinted had.
Once I had examples of good practices and what to avoid, I moved on to wireframing.
II. Wireframing
Wireframing is a key element of my process ; I always try to achieve a mid-fidelity prototype when wireframing, in order to test it on users. I also need to make sure everything works in terms of esthetic and style, and I find that mid-fidelity really helps me to achieve a well-rounded final prototype.
My main goal when creating my wireframes was to keep it simple, above all. The user should arrive on the home page and immediately receive suggestions of items to look for, or new items that fit their tastes and needs.
Simple means that while I’m imagining a new homepage and style, I am not trying to reinvent good practices ; I therefore kept a very simple approach to regular features such as message or categories.
III. Prototyping
I kept the distinctive Vinted blue-green as my main color, and used a light grey as my accent. I followed the basis I had laid with my mid-fidelity prototypes, and soon enough, I had my final version !
Here it is, enjoy !
